Bangkok, 29 January 2025 – Thailand hosted two exceptional events yesterday, celebrating cultural exchange and mutual goodwill as part of the Chinese New Year 2025 festivities and the commemoration of 50 years of Thai-Chinese diplomatic ties.

The day began at the Government House, presided over by Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The event underscored the significance of Chinese New Year in Thailand with remarks by Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, and Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand. Also in attendance were Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, and Mrs. Chang Yumeng, Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the Chinese Embassy.

The morning programme featured a vibrant showcase of Chinese culture, including the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre representing Thai artistry, a Guzheng recital by a renowned artist from Yunnan, and performances by arts troupes from Xinjiang, Zhejiang, and Yunnan, graciously presented as a gesture of goodwill from China.

In the afternoon, the celebrations continued at Central World with the annual blessing ceremony, a cherished tradition symbolising the enduring bond between Thailand and China. Highlights included the exchange of greetings and gifts between Minister Sorawong and Ambassador Han Zhiqiang, and the participation of distinguished figures such as TAT Governor Thapanee and members of the TAT Board. The ceremony concluded with captivating cultural performances by Thai and Chinese artists, seamlessly blending tradition and modernity.

These celebrations honoured the rich cultural heritage of both nations and reinforced the enduring friendship between Thailand and China, ushering in a prosperous new year together.
