The SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, will present the 18th annual Khon performance with the staging of the Ramakien’s chapter, Bali’s Unbreakable Oath, at the Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok from 6 November to 8 December 2025.
Recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Khon is celebrated as one of Thailand’s most treasured classical art forms, combining dance, drama, music, and elaborate costumes. Its enduring popularity continues to inspire new generations of performers while drawing wider audiences both in Thailand and internationally.
This year’s production retells the epic tale of Bali, Sukhrip, and Phra Ram in their struggle against Thotsakan. The narrative unfolds with dramatic battles, family conflicts, and ultimate sacrifice, interwoven with themes of loyalty, gratitude, and truth. From Bali’s defeat of Thotsakan in disguise to the fateful alliance of Sukhrip with Phra Ram and the intervention of Hanuman and his army, the performance captures the timeless values at the heart of the Ramakien.
Audiences can look forward to newly choreographed sequences, refined narration, and live classical Thai music. The staging includes grand scenes such as the celestial palace of Phra Isuan, Thotsakan’s royal elephant, and the chariots of Phra Ram and Phra Lak, all complemented by intricately crafted costumes created especially for this season.
Performed by a new generation of Khon artists, Bali’s Unbreakable Oath showcases Thailand’s cultural heritage in a production of exceptional scale and artistry. The performance blends spectacle with moral reflection, ensuring its enduring relevance for contemporary audiences both in Thailand and worldwide.
